PLAYERS
Biography: Two-year starter awarded All-American and all-conference honors last season.
Positives: Large, explosive offensive tackle who stands out in pass protection. Quickly sets up off the snap, makes exceptional use of blocking angles and displays the ability to adjust to pass rushers. Keeps his feet moving throughout the action, blocks with good lean and keeps his head on a swivel. Displays good punch and the ability to knock defenders from their angle of attack. Works to bend his knees, stays square and turns defenders off the point of attack. Immediately gets his hands into opponents and correctly places them. Solid lateral blocking range, getting out off the edge. Negatives: Not a dominant run blocker and struggles finishing off defenders. Not a natural knee bender. Marginally effective blocking in motion. Analysis: Kalil was outstanding protecting the blind side at USC and did a terrific job keeping his quarterback upright. Though slightly overrated by some, he possesses the skills to quickly come in and start at the all important left tackle position as a rookie in the NFL. Projection: 1st ![]() Ric Tapia/Icon SMI
