Charles Barkley joined the show to talk about the big stories in the NBA. Here are some of his takes:
-- Barkley had interesting comments on Kobe Bryant's penchant for last-second shots. He said that some of Kobe Bryant's game-winners are lucky. What are you going to do when he hits a 20-foot fade-away jumper? Barkley said that the Raptors played good defense against Bryant earlier this week but he hit the game-winner any way.
Barkley said that Bryant isn't in the conversation with Michael Jordan as the greatest ever. Barkley said that the Lakers "play with no sense of urgency" and only won the title because they had more talent then everyone else. Barkley said that Bryant's Lakers wouldn't have a chance against the great Bulls teams.
-- Barkley has been very impressed with the Dallas Mavericks. "They're in the conversation with the Denver Nuggets against the Lakers," Barkley said. "Clearly the Lakers are the favorite. But Denver and Dallas are right there."
-- Barkley said he has a lot of love for Allen Iverson. "I pull for Allen Iverson because I have great respect for him as a player," Barkley said. But he doesn't feel bad for guys who blow their money: "We all make a lot of money. But if at the end of the day, you're broke. That' s not cool. Because you only hit the lottery once in your life."
-- Barkley said he has no inside information on Tiger Woods. "If he's spending time with Hank [Haney], I'm assuming he's going to be back for the Masters."
Dan asked who Barkley would choose -- Tiger on Sunday or Michael Jordan playing in a Game 7. Barkley said Jordan, but he said they're both cut out of the same cloth. "I've never met two guys who wanted to win more than those two," Barkley said. "I think everybody wants to win. But I think those two guys ... they're willingness to go to another level ... they go to places other players can't go."
-- Barkley said he'll go toe-to-toe with Jordan. "He's got an aggressive personality," Barkley said. "I'm one of the few people who will fight with him. I know I've gotten to him when he brings up the championships." |

That's the Dan Patrick Show's Todd Fritz ... in the upper left-hand corner in the white shirt. Little known fact: Fritzie was one of the inspiriations for The Jersey Shore.

Dan is out today so we're going to run some of the best interviews of the past, including Adam Sandler, Brooklyn Decker, Michael Vick and much more.
A daily recap of the Dan Patrick Show ...
Q & A with Charles Barkley
DP: Whenever a Lakers game is on the line, everybody in the building knows Kobe is going to get the ball. What is that feeling like?
CB: Everybody makes it a big deal. That happens every single night. You don't hit a game winner every night, but the last two minutes of the game, a star is going to get the ball every single time. Let's say you're in oklahoma city, you know Kevin Durant is going to get the ball the last three or four trips up and down the court. That's why guys are stars.
DP: How would you defend Kobe in that situation?
CB: You know the shot he banked against Miami was just a lucky shot. There's a lot of luck that goes in. Think about that shot he made the other night (against Toronto) -- a fade-away, 20-footer, deep in the corner. I think that was good defense. You know, the guy just made a play. Sometimes the other team wins. That was a great shot, but it wasn't like it was an easy shot.
DP: Kobe in the conversation with Michael [Jordan] as a clutch player?
CB: Nobody's in the conversation with Michael.
DP: Oh, Kobe's in the conversation.
CB: Are you kidding me? Dan, Dan, Dan.
DP: Charles, Charles, Charles.
CB: Kobe is the second best player in the NBA today. He's made a bunch of incredible shots. But when you watch that Laker team play, they just go through the motions. Last year in the playoffs ... they just [have] the best team. They don't play with a sense of urgency. They're not a great team. They win because they [have] the most talent, top to bottom. But when you watch that team play, you never say to yourself, 'that team can beat the Bulls team.' They don't play with any sense of urgency at all.
Dan said he's not happy with this particular swing because his right hand is too strong. What are your thoughts? Hit the Comments below.

John Smoltz joined the show to talk about his future. He is currently without a team.
Smoltz said he hasn't gotten any calls from teams recently. "The options I have now are so intriguing to me," Smoltz said. "The good news is that I can control it."
Smoltz said he hasn't heard from the Cubs recently. He also said he talked to the Yankees before the Javier Vazquez, but he's not going to New York.
Smoltz did confirm ESPN offered him a job.
